Thirteen prisoners are on the run after Monday's brazen escape from a police truck in Durban.
KwaZulu-Natal police have rearrested two of the 15 prisoners who escaped while being transported to Westville Prison.
Sixty-four inmates were being taken back to the facility from the Durban Central Police Station yesterday when a handful of them made a run for it.
Police spokesperson, Thembeka Mbele says according to the officer driving the truck, the escape happened when they stopped at an intersection in the CBD.

"He then observed that the prisoners were breaking out of the truck and that the outer door had been broken. He immediately called for backup, but unfortunately, the remanded prisoners had escaped."
"Most of theses prisoners were arrested for common robbery, burglary and possession of drugs. But a large number of the prisoners were arrested for illegal immigration," she says.
Mbele says according to the officers they had secured the truck door with a padlock.
"A team was immediately formed which includes a detective, K-9 units, as well as members from the visible policing. They are trying to trace the suspects," she says.
