Another officer, 36-year-old Constable, Happy Dladla, lost his life in the gun battle yesterday afternoon.

SAPS spokesperson, Jay Naicker says acting on a tip-off, the northern KZN cops had gone to a home in Vimbimbobo to investigate a man, apparently in possession of an unlawful firearm.

"As the police officers approached the suspect's homestead, they were met by a hail of bullets emanating from the house and a shoot-out ensued."

The suspects stole a pistol from the injured police officers before they fled into the darkness.

Naicker says a suspect, who was shot was later arrested.

A second person was nabbed in a neighbouring home and had a firearm - stolen from the officers. The pair are facing charges of murder, attempted murder and robbery.
