KwaZulu-Natal police caught a pair of alleged crooks cold
this week, when they pounced on them at their rural homesteads and found them
with a total of 55 refrigerators - believed to have been stolen.
Police spokesperson Nqobile Gwala says officers were conducting crime prevention duties in the Mananda area, near Gingindlovu when they caught wind of the stash.
“Officers then went to the identified homesteads where they recovered 55 refrigerators that were being kept in the three houses,” she said.
“Two suspects, aged 28 and 31, were then placed under arrest after they failed to give a satisfactory explanation as to how these items landed in their possession.”
Three microwaves and two washing machines were also recovered.
Gwala says investigations are still ongoing.
Officers are yet to determine who the rightful owner of the fridges is.
Gwala says the refrigerators are valued at approximately R155,000 in total.
