KZN Education probes fatal stabbing fight at Verulam school
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The Department of Education in KwaZulu-Natal is appealing for calm at a school in Verulam, north of Durban, where a 17-year-old schoolboy died after he was stabbed in the chest.
The department says a fight broke out between groups of pupils at Siphesihle Secondary in Trenance Park on Thursday.
The teen, who was taken to a local clinic, succumbed to his injuries.
KZN Education spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi says they have sent officials to the school to investigate.
"We are very worried by the rate at which learners bring weapons to schools."

"Because the weapons that they use when they fight one another are not distributed at a school level but they bring them from home.
"So we call upon parents to randomly check what is it that their children carry in their school bags."
Verulam police are investigating a case of murder but no arrests have been made.
