KZN Education investigates misuse of funds at Durban school
Updated | By Jarryd Subroyen
A team of investigators are heading to a Durban high school this morning to look into claims that irregular payments of almost a million rand were made to some teachers.
Members of the governing body blew the whistle on the George Campbell School of Technology teachers.
The department's Enoch Nzama says they'll first establish who is involved.
It's alleged that some staff had re-directed school funds to their pockets via teaching incentives. Nzama says there isn't an incentive programme for public school teachers.
"There's little they've forwarded to the department. Our aim is to get to the truth of the matter. If there are teachers implicated - the governing body will have to assist us and make sure that they're suspended, and investigated accordingly," Nzama said.
The school's been meeting with the department on the allegations. It's yet to comment on them.
