Judgement reserved in KZN regional commissioner matter
Updated | By Khatija Nxedlana
Judgement in the matter involving the head of KZN's Correctional Services has been reserved until tomorrow.
Commissioner Mnikelwa Nxele approached the Labour Court to appeal his suspension.
The Department of Correctional Services suspended him on allegations of gross insubordination and failing to implement instructions from the national office.
Nxele's Attorney Bongani Mgaga says they want the suspension set aside and for the disciplinary process to not go ahead.
"The matter will go for conciliation on Friday before the bargaining counsel and if the matter remains unresolved then it will come for trial in this court between June 6 and June 10. The only thing that is going to be added to that order is whether he is going back to work," he said.
Lawyers representing Correctional Services argued that Nxele either be placed on special leave or be transferred to avoid an already tense working environment.
