Howick teen dies from drug overdose

A teenager is fighting for his life in hospital
after allegedly overdosing on drugs in Howick.

Another 18-year-old has died.
Midlands EMS spokesperson Roland Robertson said they received reports on Sunday about two youngsters who were unresponsive.
It is understood they were part of a group that had been consuming drugs earlier in the day.

"Upon arrival at the first location, paramedics found the teenager in a very unstable condition. While receiving medical treatment, he went into cardiac arrest, and CPR was immediately initiated," said Robertson.
"The patient was successfully resuscitated and placed on a manual ventilator on the scene and transported to the hospital for further care, where he is still in a critical condition, and doctors are monitoring him very closely.
"A second teenager was later found unresponsive, showing no signs of life and was declared deceased on scene," he added.
