Home Affairs launches birth registration office at Newcastle hospital

Mothers admitted to the Newcastle Provincial Hospital will now be able to register their babies' births at the facility.
Home Affairs is today launching the civic registration office as part of efforts to improve public services.
The department's Thabo Mogkola says parents can conveniently register their babies before mums and their newborns are discharged.

Home Affairs requires all births to be registered within 30 days.
"Through this intervention, parents are assisted to comply with the legal requirement to register their children within 30 days of birth.
"We encourage parents to register their children before leaving the health facility. Together with the Department of Health, we are now accelerating the role out of these offices in health faculties across the country."
