Law enforcement teams have been put on high alert across KwaZulu-Natal from Friday.

MEC of Community Safety and KZN chairperson for Justice, Crime and Prevention Sipho Hlomuka says this in preparation for the EFF-led national shutdown on Monday.
He briefed the media in Mayville on Friday morning.

The MEC said no one should be prevented from going to work.
He said they are encouraged by the taxi industry's decision not to participate in the protests.
"As the province, we align ourselves with the position of the National JCPS that Monday, 20 March 2023, will be a normal working day in the province and we wish to assure our people, especially those who will be going to work that their rights to work and commute will be protected.
"Whilst we respect the Constitutional right of the protesters to protest, such must be done peacefully and without tempering with the rights of others who will not be part of the planned protest action."

KZN Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi said unlike the July unrest, police teams and the South African National Defence Force are well-prepared.
"All forces, the South African Police Service and all other law enforcement agencies, including the military, will be on the ground helping us to combat anything that will threaten the safety and security of the public."
