Hawks welcome life sentence for Gingindlovu cop killer

Hawks officials in KwaZulu-Natal have welcomed the life sentence handed down to a 29-year-old man for the murder of a Gingindlovu police officer in 2015.

Warrant Officer, Jerico Mdletshe was shot and killed while responding to a complaint of suspicious vehicles on the R102 near a local shopping mall.
A second officer - Constable Senzo Ndwandwe - who accompanied Mdletshe - was also shot multiple times and rushed to hospital.

Msawenkosi Ngema was arrested in 2017. He was sentenced in the Mthunzini Magistrate's Court on Monday. Ngema was also handed five years for attempted murder.
The sentence will run concurrently.
