Harry Gwala officials confess to paying ghost employees

Two Harry Gwala municipal officials have admitted to paying salaries to nine ghost workers.
Thamsanqa Mazibuko and Thembinkosi Msawzi pleaded guilty to fraud in the Durban Regional Court on Thursday.
The municipality opened a criminal case in Ixopo after it became suspicious of the duo's actions.

KZN Hawks spokesperson Sibu Ncane says Msawzi was the municipality's chief accountant, while Mazibuko was the salary accountant at the time of the crimes in 2017.
"Mazibuko pleaded guilty in terms of section 112 to 224 counts of fraud and is currently out on R10,000 bail. Msawzi pleaded guilty in terms of section 112 to 25 counts of fraud and is currently out on R5,000 bail.

"The case has been remanded to 5 August 2024 for sentencing of both accused."
