Half of Bluff without power since Tuesday
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
Half of the Bluff in Durban South has been in the dark since Tuesday night.
Ward 66 Councillor Zoe Solomon says she's been told the cause of the outage is a damaged medium vault cable.
"First, you then have to find which part of the cable is broken and those cables go on for kilometres, then they have to excavate it.
"They then look for which resources they need and then come back and they fix the piece that is broken and put is all back on.
"Now, under ordinary circumstances, if you have a problem with a cable, they can actually loop half the substation that is broken if the substation is a problem."

She says redirecting power from another source is no longer an option because of past sabotage and vandalism to substations in the area.
Solomon says the priority is to get supply to important key sites.
"I try and expedite the most important emergency places, for example, a reservoir runs on electricity.
"The reservoir pumps water up the tower and the tower feeds the water to the houses and when you an electricity outage for this long the reservoir is not working now, so now there is no water in the tap."
eThekwini Municipality has confirmed it's investigating the problem.
