Govt failed to deliver its promises on Marikana: Amnesty International
Amnesty International says the situation in Marikana remains the same, 10 years after the police massacre of 34 striking Lonmin miners.
The human rights group says government's failed to deliver on its promise to build houses and improve living conditions.

"There isn't much that has been done to improve the lives of the workers and also of communities near the mine," says Amnesty International SA's Sibusiso Khasa.
"Government was supposed to build about 2 600 houses, but today you only find that government has only built about 500 houses for the workers and community members."
Khasa has appealed to mining companies in the country to offer more assistance to employees who can't afford to purchase a house.

"When it comes to Sibanye-Stillwater, we believe that they should stop pointing fingers at Lonmin and develop strategies which has measurable targets on how it plans to improve living conditions of its employees and those of community members."
