Firefighters suspect arson in deadly Umlazi blaze

The eThekwini Fire Department is suspecting arson in a shack fire that killed three teenagers in Umlazi, south of Durban this morning.

Officials rushed to the F-Section home at around 2am and found it engulfed by flames.
Once the fire was put out, the bodies of the children aged between 13 and 14-years were found.
A woman sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital for further care.
"Signs of the fire itself also lead us to suspect that there was foul play. The police will be investigating further," he said.
However, police say they are still investigating a inquest docket.

Regional Commander Sibusiso Mkhulisi says they do not believe the fire was an accident.

Mkhulisi says they have been told by bystanders that the fire was not the only incident involving the family."Signs of the fire itself also lead us to suspect that there was foul play. The police will be investigating further," he said.
