The turtles, believed to have hatched on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast, were found stranded on a beach and taken to the Two Oceans Aquarium in Cape Town.

Due to the aquarium having a high number of animals being kept there this year, the loggerheads were flown to Durban on yesterday.

The hand-sized turtles are said to be in a healthy condition and look strong.

Senior aquarist, Malini Pather says tests to check their behaviour and responses to feeding were conducted today.

"We will monitor them and then see of any need further medical treatment and if they can be released and when," said Pather.

"Fortunately the animals we received yesterday all look really health. There is one that is a little slower than everybody else, but we will watch him a lot more closely. Once we have had them seen by a vet, we will arrange for them to be released back into the ocean."
