The loved ones of a matriculant who was gunned down in
Pietermaritzburg, while he was waiting to receive his NSC results, say they're
battling to come to terms with his death.
Mvelo Zikhali and his friends had gone to a fuel station last week to wait for the newspapers to arrive when he was accosted by phone thieves who then shot him.
Zikhali's grief-stricken aunt Zoleka Zikhali says instead of celebrations they had to suddenly make arrangements for her nephew's funeral.
"What makes this worse is that Mvelo was a well-behaved child for his life to be taken like this, defending his property.

Zikhali matriculated at MandlakaZulu High in Imbali township. His aunt says he dreamed of becoming a town planner.
“He did get the newspaper the night he was killed. We were all so excited and praying for him. We were praying that he passes so we can receive some good news in January because we had just buried my mothers-twin sister in December.”
