Ten-year-old, Mlondi Dlamini and 11-year-old, Libongwe Ngcobo had gone swimming in the river when they drowned.

Their bodies were recovered in the late afternoon by the police's search and rescue unit.

Mondli's uncle, Lungla Dlamini says the boys were inseparable.

"They were very close - they would go everywhere together. They would disappear together - it happened yesterday," he says.

Dlamini says they don't know what led to the drowning - but were surprised Mlondi had gone there in the first place.

"It's very scary and at the same time unbelievable. Mlondi in particular was very afraid of the area," he says.

Dlamini says the incident has highlighted the issue of water safety.

"Whether going to the beach, or a swimming pool. Wherever it is, I think parents should be watchful of their kids. Most importantly, be careful," he says.

The boys will be laid to rest this weekend.
