Yesterday, Gumede admitted the city has been having problems with its Revenue Management System, after complaints by ratepayers.
Some companies say their accounts also erroneously show they owe millions of rands.
Mayoral spokesperson, Mthunzi Gumede says payments will be cleared if necessary once the probe is over.
"The mayor has highlighted that the issue of the wrong billing should be resolved as soon as possible. Afterwards we'll be able to take a step that will ensure that we deal with the matter of incorrect billings," he says.
