Empangeni, Richards Bay residents warned of water shutdown
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Mhlathuze Water is urging residents in parts of Empangeni
and Richards Bay to use the resource sparingly.
The utility says a planned water shutdown will last 24 hours from 8am on Wednesday, leading to some supply disruptions.
Spokesperson Siyabonga Maphumulo says they need to perform maintenance on infrastructure.
The water supply system will be closed from the Nsezi Water Treatment Plant which supplies bulk water to the City of uMhlathuze and some industrial customers in Richards Bay.

"Due to the nature of the works we are going to take in, which includes repairs to an 800-diameter pipeline that supplies Emangeni as well as an installation of new valves at the Nsezi Water Treatment Plant,” says Maphumulo.
"Some water interruptions are anticipated, while we aim to do our level best to keep the disruption to a minimum, we do ask for patience and cooperation during this time.
"Ultimately, the routine maintenance is to ensure no major breakdowns that might lead to a long-term supply issue to occur in the future."
