Elevation of Hazelmere Dam wall completed

The project of raising the Hazelmere Dam wall by seven metres has finally been completed.
Officials say it now has more storage capacity to meet the growing demand in the North Coast region.
The supply area of the dam extends from KwaDukuza in the north to Groutville, Blythedale, Ballito and Verulam.
Most of the system's water is used for domestic, industrial, and agricultural purposes, mainly for the irrigation of sugar cane farming.

Water and Sanitation Minister Senzo Mchunu says supply for residents in eThekwini should also improve.
"Following the floods, Aqueducts 1 and 2 were damaged. Repairs to Aqueduct 1 have been completed, and the pipeline is back online. Repairs to Aqueduct 2 have also been completed and are back online, and it will be commissioned very soon."
Mchunu says they are continuing to support the city in its maintenance of water and sanitation infrastructure.
"For now, eThekwini should have less of the so-called crisis of water because of all these additions, but still, the shortages of water in the south and other areas required a number of accelerated activities, including the completion of repairs to eThekwini south-bound aqueduct."
