The African National Congress maintains its lead nationally, but that magical 50% mark is slipping away.

The ANC currently sits at 41.89% with over three million votes tallied, followed by the DA at 23.53%

While the ANC is leading the chats nationally, it is facing an uphill task in some provinces.

The governing party is at risk of losing the majority in KwaZulu-Natal to uMkhonto we Sizwe.

The MK Party is still leading, with the ANC in second place.  The IFP is behind the ANC.

While the counting of results still continues, analysts have predicted that Gauteng is also at risk.

The ANC also hoped to take the Western Cape from the DA. However, the numbers do not look good.

DA KZN leader Francios Rodgers and another party member were among the early arrivals at the provincial results centre in Durban on Friday morning.

MK and EFF members have also been milling about the centre, while we've also spotted an ANC representative.

Newswatch has also been monitoring the results board, although there has been very little movement in the numbers.

In the province, the MK party has the largest number of votes at nearly 44%, with nearly 40% of the KZN results in.

The ANC remains second with just under 19%, and the IFP 15%

An IEC briefing is set to take place on Friday afternoon.
