Two Durban policemen are receiving treatment in hospital after being seriously wounded in the early morning shooting.

The officers had responded to reports of a robbery when they came under heavy gunfire.

Police spokesperson, Nqobile Gwala says the gang of seven sped off, later abandoning their vehicle in Phoenix.

"Two counts of attempted murder have been opened at Inanda police station and we are also appealing to anyone who might have information to contact their local police station," she says.

The suspect - currently under police guard - will face attempted murder charges and will be appearing at the Ntuzuma Magistrate's court soon.

Meanwhile, the KZN police top brass has condemned the killing of an officer near Eshowe on Wednesday.
