Durban mother speaks of home collapse horror

The mother of four-year-old Mpilo Ngidi who was miraculously pulled out alive after heavy rain caused
the building he was sleeping in to collapse on him has told
Newswatch of how she could not get her son out of their crumbling home in time.

Zinhle Ngidi's informal dwelling on Johanna Road in Sea Cow Lake collapsed in heavy rain at the weekend.
Ngidi's son, Mpilo, was buried beneath stones when their home caved-in
Emergency services had to cut through wire before they could reach the child.
After a two-hour rescue, the 18-year-old mother had almost given up hope as
rescuers pulled her distressed son out of the rubble.
Ngidi told Newswatch of the horror as she woke up that night to find the
ceiling of her ceiling had caved in.
Ngidi says she is so happy that her family made it out alive because at some point she didn't think the family would survive.
Mpilo was treated for a foot injury and discharged from Addington Hospital on Monday.
