Angry protestors gathered outside the Umbumbulu Magistrates Court on Monday demanding no bail for the 30-year-old man accused of the murder of Zinhle Muthwa.
The 29-year-old's body was found on the side of a road in Ndaya Reserve in the KZN South Coast on New Years Day.
She was last seen leaving her New Germany home the day before.
Police tracked down and arrested the suspect in Umbumbulu on Sunday.
Scores of people gathered outside the Umbumbulu Magistrates Court, where the man is set to make his first appearance.
Chants and singing for no bail could be heard echoing through the halls. Muthwa’s emotional family was also at court, seeking justice for her.
They are demanding that the man accused of her murder be denied bail and kept in prison for the rest of his life.
Sources close to the investigation say the man was known to Muthwa.
Her lifeless body was found with a single gunshot wound to the head.
Her body was found by a passerby who alerted the police. She had also suffered a head injury and multiple injuries all over her body.
Police got word of where the suspect was and arrested him on the south coast.
Provincial Commissioner Khombinkosi Jula said: "A suspect was arrested in Umbumbulu after an intensive investigation. A firearm which was used in the commission of Zinhle's murder was confiscated. The arrest of the suspect has cold comfort to her relatives and friends as her life will never be restored".
