Durban fire: Officials work to find permanent home for children
Updated | By Lethiwe Mdluli
The children from the Edith Benson Children's Home in Sherwood have been moved to four other facilities in Durban following a fire at the home.
A total of 57 children had to be evacuated after the building became engulfed by flames last night.
The provincial Social Development spokesperson, Ncumisa Ndelu says social workers are currently working on a permanent solution for the children.
"We looked at the site this morning and we had a briefing on what happened but we will be waiting on the fire department to assist us because they conduct the actual investigation," she says.

Ndelu says safety checks were recently conducted at the home.
"What we can say is that particular home was recently submitted for an audit conducted by the department into all residential facilities in the province to check if these facilities actually meet security measures and standards to avoid what exactly what happened at this place," she says.
