Thabiso Ngcobo opened an attempted murder case in May after he came under fire while driving on the M13.

Ngcobo, who's in the construction and transport business, said the gunmen were travelling in four cars fitted with blue lights.

They intercepted his vehicle and forced him to pull over.

"I am pleased at the fact that there is progress in the case, but I am still interested to hear the reasoning behind all of it. There was a version given of mistaken identity, but I think the evidence that is coming up shows otherwise."

Prosecutors say the nine officers who appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate's court on Thursday were granted bail of R5,000 each.

Under their bail conditions, they are barred from entering the Hillcrest area, have surrendered their passports, and are prohibited from interfering with witnesses.

They are due back in court next month.
