The announcement was made a short while ago in New Zealand.

A delegation of city officials travelled to Auckland for the big announcement.

Other officials have gathered at the George Campbell School of Technology to witness history being made.

No learning or studying is taking place at the school at this hour. The pupils are excited as their school has been used as one of the venues for this big announcement.

Pupils from different Durban high schools have gathered at the facility.

EThekwini Municipality speaker, Logie Naidoo has taken to the stage to address them.

Meanwhile, speaking to us earlier, city manager S'busiso Sithole says hosting the games will see upgrades to sporting facilities and roads that will also benefit Durbanites in the long-run.

"Mathematically we stand a 100% chance to get the games because we're competing with no other country, against no other city. In fact, having assessed the state our facilities I think they were confident that the city is capable of hosting the games," he said.

Sithole says hosting the games will see upgrades to sporting facilities and roads that will also benefit Durbanites in the long-run.

"As a prelude to 2022, we are also likely to receive a lot of other events to make us prepare adequately for the Games. Overall, we are ready in terms of infrastructure. It's not like we are starting from scratch - we'll have to upgrade the existing infrastructure," he added.
