Dube Tradeport employees continue wage strike
Updated | By Celumusa Zulu
Protesting Dube Tradeport workers say all they want is to be treated with dignity.
Over 200 of the workers, affiliated with the National Education, Health and Allied Workers' Union, have gone on an indefinite strike after wage negotiations deadlocked.
They are on the second day of their demonstration near King Shaka International Airport.
The workers' demands include a 13th cheque.
NEHAWU's Sfiso Zulu says they are also holding out for comprehensive medical aid and a danger allowance.
"For many years, we have been negotiating with the employer to say that workers are not getting the 13th cheque.

"We also want a housing allowance from the employer that is on the same level at an amount that is equivalent to where many of our members stay, and we want the contribution of the employer to increase in terms of the provident fund."
Dube Tradeport spokesperson Xolile Shabalala says any resolution will need to consider the company's financial position.
"We have worked to ensure minimal disruptions to operations as NEHAWU members continue their strike. The picketing has been contained in a designated area on the verge of the R102 and the M65, ensuring that access to the airport precinct is unaffected during this time."
