Don't treat immigrants like criminals: Mbeki
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
Former president Thabo Mbeki says he is deeply concerned by what transpired on Friday in Pretoria during an anti-illegal immigrant march.
There was a stand-off between South Africans and foreign nationals in the city centre - with local residents saying illegal immigrants come here to operate drug dens and brothels.
But foreigners say they are here peacefully and to earn an honest living.

Mbeki says we indebted to other African countries.
"As South Africans we should never forget the enormous sacrifices that were made by the other countries in Africa, to help us achieve our liberation. We cannot behave in a manner to treat other fellow Africans who are now residents in our country, as enemies or unwelcomed guests," he said.
Mbeki was speaking following his inauguration as the new Chancellor of UNISA.
