COVID-19: Cases likely to rise post lockdown - Expert
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Epidemiologist and infectious diseases specialist, Professor Salim Abdool Karim, says there is potential for a rise in COVID-19 cases post lockdown.

He says local transmissions have been stable since the lockdown, but that could quickly escalate if lifted.
Professor Karim was speaking on UKZN's data breakfast webinar presentation on COVID-19 yesterday.

He says government's strategy to identify hotspots will help them respond in case of a likely event.
"We are using cell phones to collect information. So community health workers would enter information into the cell phones and when they submit this information it also sends the location of where people have been screened", he said.
"So we now have information on our fingertips and can tell where hotspots are", Abdool Karim said.
"This is then how we will tackle this problem, by using data", he said.
