COVID-19: 3 arrested for flouting regulations
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Three people have been arrested in Umlazi, south of Durban, for not adhering to the national lockdown regulations.
The suspects were arrested at a roadblock near Mega City yesterday, set up by the provincial government. A total of 224 roadblocks were held across KZN, three in uMlazi where concerns over people not adhering to the rules were raised.
Premier Sihle Zikalala says while the majority of people are obeying the new laws, some are just not listening.
"We had one who was driving with more than 3 people in the vehicle. We also had one driving with 2 children in the car", he said.
"For them regulations do no matter. They see the lockdown as a holiday. One motorist explained he was going to fetch medication for his grandchildren and they thought they should just come along", Zikalala said.
"No, we will not allow such things", the Premier said.
The SAPS, SANDF and metro police officers will be strengthening visibility around the province especially in residential areas.
