Clean-up starts on N2 following tanker crash
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Clean-up crews have turned their attention to the spillage
on the N2 following this morning's multi-vehicle smash near Queen Nandi
Drive.
Durban Metro Police say they'll make sure the route is safe before reopening that portion of the freeway to motorists.
A tanker carrying 40-thousand litres of paraffin collided with a motorbike and a bakkie on the N2 north, leading to closure between the M19 and Avoca.
It's since been recovered.
Metro police spokesperson Parboo Sewpersad says various emergency teams responded and helped prevent the spill from getting into a river nearby.
“The salvage operation has just finished now, we have announced our safety measures by putting more diversion around the spill itself into the riverbed and we have also started to announce our diversion in the outer perimeter for safety reasons."
Sewpersad warns there will be a knock-on effect of the N2 road closure.

"All roads leading into Durban, that is the R102, the M41, the M4, M19 and Inanda Road. All roadways are congested. We are trying our best to ensure to try keep the traffic flowing.
“The N2 northbound from Queen Nandi Drive, the Inanda and Umgeni interchanges and the southbound route at Avoca are affected. Garrith Jamieson, who's with ALS Paramedics, says the motorcyclist was badly hurt.”
"Paramedics found that the motorbike driver, a man believed to be in his late 20s sustained critical injuries. Advanced life support paramedics were stabilising him before rushing the man to hospital. There were no other injuries as the driver of the truck escaped unharmed."
