Cele to visit Mariannhill following deadly police shootout

Police Minister Bheki Cele and senior members of the SAPS visited Marianhill, west of Durban on Thursday.

The visit came after nine suspects were killed in a shoot-out with police at a homestead in Nerina Road the previous day.
The group were wanted in connection with a gang rape in the area as well as a number of violent crimes.
Detectives who were acting on information, that the group were going to commit a hit decided to act in the early hours of the morning.

They claim the suspects opened fire on them and were killed in retaliation.
“The Minister of Police, General Bheki Cele, and the management of the SAPS will conduct a-walk-about and engage the community of Marianhill, following the removal of this gang that has been terrorising the community,” said Cele's spokesperson, Lirandzu Themba.
“A manhunt for two suspects is still underway."
