Buthelezi death has left gaping vacuum in IFP - Hlabisa

Inkatha Freedom Party President Velenkosini Hlabisa says there will never be another leader like Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi.
Hlabisa made the remarks at Buthelezi's memorial service in Ulundi on Wednesday.
"The loss of Prince Buthelezi has left a gaping vacuum in the IFP, in the Zulu Kingdom, and in the South African political landscape. Most, if not all of us here today have never had to live in a world without uShenge."
Buthelezi passed away last weekend at the age of 95.
Hlabisa said even after stepping down, the IFP founder continued to make his presence felt when circumstances demanded it.

He said Buthelezi was one of the few political leaders out on the streets during the 2021 unrest, supporting residents and calling for calm.
"He was also the first to call on the president of the country to deploy the SANDF to save our economy. Unfortunately, his call was not acceded to immediately.
"We will forever be grateful for the opportunity to have worked beside uMntwana waKwaPhindangene in the service of our people."
