The body of a 38-year-old man who was apparently kidnapped several days ago has been found with gunshot wounds near a bush in Newlands, north of Durban.
Johnathan Okinedo was reported missing on Saturday after going to meet a client in Ntuzuma to install a satellite dish.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Thembeka Mbele says his brother later received a call with a ransom demand.
"He received a call from him demanding that he transfer a sum of R2 000 since he was in trouble. His brother's phone has been on voicemail, and he is nowhere to be found.”
The money was apparently paid.
"Yesterday, Newlands East police received a complaint of two dead bodies dumped in the bush at Riverdene in Newlands.
"On arrival at the scene they found unknown males with gunshot wounds lying next to a white vehicle.
"One of the victims was later identified as a 38-year-old man who was allegedly kidnapped by unknown people on 4 December in the Ntuzuma area and the second victim is still unknown.”
A murder case has been opened at the Newlands East police station.
