The damage caused by a fire that broke out at Blue Waters Hotel in Durban is estimated at over R1-million.
A transformer, operated by the municipality, blew up this morning while firefighters were investigating smoke coming from the transformer bank at the hotel.
Acting Division Commander at Durban Fire Justin Bateman says the transformer alone is worth between R700 000 and R800 000.

Three people suffered smoke inhalation during this morning's blaze.
Bateman says they are being treated at a local hospital adding there is no threat further to hotel guests.
"The smoke likes to stick around especially oil smoke - it's very dense. What's going to happen is we're going to have to open the windows, ventilate the premises just for people that might have an acute problem like asthma or something similar.
"If you don't vent it properly, they're going to come into the room and a few minutes later they're going to have trouble breathing," he said.
These hotel guests have shared their experience.
