Basic Education aims to improve ECD programme - Motshekga
Updated | By Xolani Khumalo
Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga says there are several areas of government's Early Childhood Development programme that need urgent attention.
The department recently took over the running of ECD from Social Development.
Motshekga spoke at the launch of the Early Childhood Development Census on Friday, which aims to collect information to allow proper support for ECD centres around the country.
She told those in attendance that her department is laying the groundwork to improve the quality of the early childhood development programme.

"So as we prepare to forge ahead of our priorities in the areas of growth, we will as a governing party continue to work towards the universal access to quality ECD programmes for our children, streamlining the ECD registration to expand access to funding, training the professional staff even further and creating career paths because I also see careers for young people in those areas."
