Sibongile Mbambo - the one-month-old's mother, and her co-accused, Phumlani Mbokazi - were granted R1000 bail in the Durban Magistrate's Court yesterday.
The pair, who are due back in court on May 9, face charges of fraud and defeating the ends of justice. They had also initially been charged with kidnapping but that has since fallen away.
The baby's mother was arrested along with two other suspects after baby Siwaphiwe - who went missing in an apparent hijacking near a shopping centre in the Durban CBD last Friday - was found when police intercepted a vehicle at the Mariannhill Toll Plaza.
The child's disappearance sparked searches across the city - with the news later making local and international headlines.
The National Prosecuting Authority's Natasha Ramkisson-Kara explains the charges they're facing.
