Babes Wodumo abuse 'horrifying': Minister
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
Arts and Culture Minister, Nathi Mthethwa has added his voice to the growing chorus of support for a woman - believed to be well-known South African singer Babes Wodumo - who is seen in a video being slapped repeatedly by a man in a bedroom.
The woman, whose real name is Bongekile Simelane, can be heard asking why she's being hit.
The video was streamed live from the artist's Instagram page last night and has been a talking point on social media, with incensed fans calling on the celebrity to open a case against her abuser, who they believe is former fiance and music producer, Mandla Maphumulo, popularly known as Mampintsha.
Mthethwa has issued a statement on Twitter condemning the incident and called on the singer to open a case against the man who assaulted her.

Here’s what the provisions say on Domestic Violence
Babes SHOULD open a case or give someone permission to do so on her behalf.
Can those closer to her obtain this in writing & head to SAPS pic.twitter.com/tYEu97RJ9y

As a country, we are now all witnesses of the abuse of Babes Wodumo by #Mampinthsa. The call to #ArrestMampinthsa is significant because we are refusing to be complacent with unforgivable crime of women abuse. For if nothing is done, the next step is murder. #ArrestMampinthsa
