ANCYL KZN claims lack of youth representation for November polls

The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) in KwaZulu-Natal says it's disappointed after learning that young people have been excluded from contesting the local government elections.
Members of the group submitted a memorandum after a protest outside the party's offices in Durban on Monday.
Spokesperson Sibonelo Nomvalo says according to the PR lists they've seen, young people are severely underrepresented in councils.
"We have made an assessment as the interim structure in the province that there's been an outright exclusion of young people in all 11 regions of KwaZulu-Natal.
"We said that we can't allow this under our watch because it's a direct violation pf them policy position of the ANC and also of the guidelines of the ANC which provides a provision of 25 percent youth representation should be made when the ANC is dealing with its deployment."
He says it's the first time something like this has happened.
"During the selection processes the ANC Youth League structures were disbanded across the country, so we think the ANC saw an opportunity and took advantage of it."
"We have never had this kind of situation. Youth representation has always been there, especially after the ANC committed to giving us 25 percent."
