ANCYL faces contempt of court action
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
An application for contempt of court has been filed against the ANC Youth League in KZN.
It's been filed by the Active Citizens Movement which hosted a Durban memorial Ahmed Kathrada which descended into chaos when members of the youth league arrived.
"Over the past few weeks, we have been busy preparing court papers. Today, we have filed those documents," she said.
The ACM had tried to bar the league from being at the event last month but the youth were given permission to attend by the high court on condition they behave.
Among the speakers were former Finance Minister, Pravin Gordhan and ANC Treasurer-General Zweli Mkhize.

The ACM's Yashica Padia says they are asking the court to order the ANCYL to publish a detailed apology to it, the Kathrada family, and the general public.
"We believe that the youth league can't show such abject disrespect for the law. We also believe that we owe it to the citizens of South Africa, who are committed to democracy, that we be allowed the right to freedom of expression and assembly.
"With that memorial being disrupted. it was not just us but the public in general, that were not given that opportunity to pay respects duly to Mr. Ahmed Kathrada who was a stalwart of the struggle," she said.
