The ruling party is clinging on to 17% of the provincial ballot, behind frontrunner uMkhonto Wesizwe's 45%, and the IFP's 18%.
Jacob Zuma's MK party has rattled the national leader board scooping 14.7% of the vote after overtaking the EFF.

The ANC's spokesperson Mafika Mndebele says the election blow sends a clear message to the party's leaders.
"What the ANC leadership must do now is not to view this as a defeat. They must view this as a clear message, and something must be done. We must not only speak against corruption. We must be seen to be acting against corruption."
Mndebele says the party also needs to be seen actively delivering services.
"The ANC remains, by and large, the hope of the people and the ANC must continue to work."
Mndebele believes that people voted in protest against the organisation.
"We do not view this as the work of individuals. We view this outcome as a protest from our people and what the ANC must do must not enter into a witch hunt but it must self-correct and that is what we commit ourselves to do."
