3 Durban cops face charges of alleged theft of R2 million
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
Three Durban police officers are due to appear in court on Monday, in connection with the alleged theft of R2 million in Hillcrest.
The two suspects from Durban K9 and the other from Pinetown Crime Intelligence - were allegedly part of a team that conducted a bogus search and seizure operation at a home in April last year.
The SAPS says the homeowner was told, at 11 at night, that the four cops and another person were looking for an illegal firearm.
During the search, they found two cardboard boxes and a safe containing R2,2 million.

The homeowner opened a case of theft with Hillcrest SAPS, after the money was seized, saying no information was given on where the cash was being taken.
Meanwhile, police are continuing with their search for the two other suspects: a Warrant Officer and the fifth person who raided the property.
