15 injured after taxi overturns on M4 in Durban
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
UPDATE: Both carriageways of the M4 near Virginia Airport in Durban have now been reopened. The highway was completely closed earlier after two serious collisions in the vicinity in which a number of people have been hurt.
Crisis Medical's Kyle Van Reenen says in the first accident, at the Swapo off-ramp, a taxi lost control and overturned.
"Fifteen commuters sustained injuries - ranging from minor to moderate. They were treated and stabilised on scene by Crisis Medical before being taken through to hospital," he says.
Van Reenen says the second crash happened 500 metres away from the first one.
The Metro Police's Parbhoo Sewpersadh says traffic is at a standstill there.
"Motorists are advised to use alternative routes - Northway, the N2 and North Coast Road," he says.
