12 accused back in court for bail in R1.9m PPE fraud case

A dozen suspects, accused in a personal protective equipment tender fraud case at the South African Police Service, are due to line up in a Gauteng court again for their bail hearing.
Fifteen people, including former police officials, were nabbed by a task team on Monday.
Three of the accused, including a retired police officer, were granted bail of R5 000 each on Tuesday.
The NPA's Investigating Directorate spokesperson Sindisiwe Seboka says the group faces charges of theft, fraud and forgery.

"The Investigating Directorate will be opposing bail for the remaining 12 accused as their offences are schedule six offences.
"The accused were arrested for allegations of having caused a supplier to unduly benefit from the procurement of latex gloves in April 2020 for the South African Police Services nationally.”
