RTI issues warning to truck owners amid spate of crashes
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
The Road Traffic Management Corporation is warning truck owners they will be held liable for their employees' negligent driving.
The warning comes in the wake of a number of deadly collisions in KZN involving heavy-duty vehicles.
Friday's crash in Pongola sent shockwaves across the country, when a truck crashed head-on into a bakkie transporting schoolchildren, killing 18 of them.

The driver was seen in video footage overtaking other vehicles at the time.
He's facing culpable homicide charges.
The corporation's now warning the owners of trucking companies that they too will be held accountable for bad behaviour on the roads.
There were three separate truck collisions on Monday, including one at Denny Dalton in northern KZN.

The RTI's Zinhle Mgomezulu says four trucks, a minibus and a bakkie were involved.
"There was a runaway truck as per the eyewitness that ran over all these vehicles and unfortunately the driver of the truck that had a brake failure dead on the scene. He was the only person on scene to sustain fatal injuries. Other than that there were no injuries on scene."
