Zodwa on 'homophobic' comments backlash: 'I'm calling it as I see it'
Updated | By Tamlyn Canham
South Africans are calling for Zodwa Wabantu's reality show to be cancelled after her "gays are silly" remarks.
Zodwa Wabantu is making headlines this week and not because of her racy outfit choices.
The dancer has come under fire for comments she made about gay men on her reality show.
During a recent episode of 'Zodwa Wabantu: Uncensored', she slammed homosexual men for fighting with women.
"Gays are silly because they are fighting with women. Name one gay who has never fought with a woman in the industry. Their problem is that gays are convinced that they have vaginas, while they have penises. We accommodate you guys because you wear make-up and when we, as women, talk about men you’re always there contributing to the conversation," she said.

The Hate Speech
She's Just Descriminating Our Fellow Brothers 💔💔💔 Being Gay Doesn't Mean You Trying To Make Yourself A female, I'm Just Disgusted By Your Words Of Hate Speech. Smanga Is Just Your Hand Bag #ZodwaCancelled #Uyajola99 pic.twitter.com/N0mYL296Co
One viewer was so offended by the comment he started a petition on Change.org calling for the Moja Love reality show to be cancelled.
"Zodwa WaBantu's reality show... has revealed that Zodwa WaBantu is homophobic and transphobic through her ignorant comments she made on last week's episode stating that gay men should not behave like women because they do not have vaginas but women do and she also stated that gay people are being done a favour to even be allowed to exist as the same spaces...these comments were homophobic therefore pose a threat to the members of the LGBT+ at large," the petition reads.
Over six-thousand people have signed the petition. But not everyone is supporting the move.
Another petition has been created to 'Save Zodwa Wabantu's Show on Majo Love TV' .
While her fans fight over whether her comments are homophobic or not, Zodwa thinks the drama is much to do about nothing.
"How can I be homophobic when I have more than 20 gay friends. Even my designer is gay. I was talking about my friends. I am talking about something that I have observed about them since they are my friends. Anyway, that is a reality show, I am calling it as I see it," she told SowetanLive.
Zodwa explained in a separate interview with TshisaLIVE that her comments were directed at a group of men who had done horrible things to her.
"People just jumped to conclusions. I said what I said in reference to three gay men who have done some sh*tty things in my life. It was a personal story that I was telling and my feelings towards those particular gay people. Not the entire LGBTQ+ community."
#ZodwaCancelled was trending on Twitter, with many sharing their thoughts on the matter.
The blatant disregard this woman has for the words she utters is an absolute disgust. I’m so embarrassed to say I’ve been a fan of hers. #ZodwaCancelled

Don’t downplay Zodwa’s homophobic violence. Anyone with any kind of platform should be smart enough to use it responsibly. If they aren’t, disconnect their microphone #zodwacancelled
