Yay! 1-minute ‘all out’ exercise has benefit of 60 minutes

Here’s some good news for people who don’t have a lot of
time to exercise, or struggle to wake up in the morning to get their behinds to
the gym.
Short spurts of a high intensity workout can have the same results as a one hour moderate-intensity exercise, like jogging.
According to a study carried out by the McMaster University, the shorter session can improve cardiorespiratory fitness and insulin sensitivity.
“What this study tried to prove was that working out three times per week, for 12 weeks, for 10 minutes, of which, one minute was at maximal intensity is as effective as doing 50 mins of training, of which 45 mins were at a moderate intensity,” Shane Collins, the founder of boutique boxing gym, Kobox, told the Daily Mail’s sister site, FEMAIL.
He added that high intensity exercise is also good for your lungs and heart as it increases your need for oxygen – firing your internal operating systems.
Shane described this as being similar to upgrading the iOS on your phone or laptop.
He suggested squat jumps, star jumps, punching the air while sprinting on the spot, and high knees with punches as good short spurts of exercise.
Shane rated rounds of burpees as his ultimate high intensity exercise.
