Obtaining wisdom from a billionaire is invaluable, but would you turn down $500,000 (R9,493,725) to have lunch with one instead?

For years now, a debate has been raging on social media about whether fans of Jay-Z should take the money or spend a few minutes with him to learn about his secrets to success.

Many believe the lunch chat would be worth more than $500,000 in the long run.

Jay-Z is finally settling the debate. He recently sat down for an interview with 'CBS Mornings' host Gayle King to discuss his 'Book of HOV' exhibit at the Brooklyn Public Library in New York.

During the interview, Gayle asked him about the viral debate and which option he would pick.

Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, did not hesitate.

"You gotta take the money," he said. The 53-year-old rapper added: "That's a bad deal. I wouldn't tell you to cut a bad deal."

The 'Empire State of Mind' hitmaker says his fans can get all that wisdom from his music for $10.99 (R210).

"Take the $500,000, go buy some albums and listen to the albums. It’s all there. If you piece it together and really listen to the music for the words, for what it is. It’s all there. Everything that I said was going to happen, happened. Everything that I said I wanted to do, I’ve done, and there’s the blueprint."

Jay-Z net worth

With an estimated net worth of more than $2.5-billion, it's no surprise that people would rather ask him questions over a lunch or dinner date than take $500,000 cash.

Jay-Z, who is married to music superstar Beyoncé, became a billionaire in 2019. Aside from an impressive music catalogue, the rapper is also an astute businessman.

According to Forbes, he sold a 50% stake in his champagne company, Armand de Brignac, to luxury goods company, LVMH, in 2021.

He is the co-owner of a cognac brand called D'Usse. Bacardi bought a majority share in the company in 2023. The Grammy Award winner also owns shares in Uber.
