Win tickets to see Worlds Apart, an exciting dance drama choreographed by Adele Blank and the Playhouse Dance Residency dancers.
First seen during the Playhouse Company’s 2012 South African Women’s Arts Festival, Worlds Apart returns in a revamped version to the Playhouse Drama stage as part of The Playhouse Company’s current season of New Stages.
Worlds Apart explores issues that often arise when women from rural communities move into city environments.
Reminiscent of life’s circular journey, it is derived from a tale by renowned story-teller Gcina Mhlophe, whose narration can be heard on the soundtrack to which the dancers perform.
“As traditional women today seek to become part of urban life, they often find the experience clashes with who they are – making them feel ‘worlds apart’”, says Blank, one of South Africa’s most distinguished choreographers and dance teachers.
“Ultimately, the show is about carrying on with life, while retaining a healthy perspective of where we come from, and keeping in touch with our roots and origins.”
Dancers appearing in Worlds Apart include Zinhle Gumede, Rachel Abrahams, Nkanyiso Kunene, Sandile Mbili, Nkululeko Ntombela, Parvishen Paideya, Leagen Peffer, Thobeka Quvane and Michael Jakavula.
* Schools performances of the production will be given in the Playhouse Drama Theatre on Wednesday and Thursday, 22 and 23 May, at 11h00, with public performances in this venue on Friday 24 May at 19h00 and on Saturday 25 May at 14h30 and 19h00.
Tickets are R80 per person for the public performances, R35 per person for schools performances.
